On vista, when i start my computer there is no desktop or start up menu, only a computer window?

try doing this...

1. Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del

2. Click the applications tab

3. Click the New Task button

4. In the textbox type in "explorer" and hit ok.

That SHOULD bring up the rest of the stuff i.e. startup menu and desktop.
