I have Windows Xp, I now want to install Vista. Can I format my pc and rid it of XP and then install VIsta? Right now I reformatted my computer and tried to boot from the vista cd, however it was stopped and said there was a error and would not go any further. Is there anyway to override XP and use the Vista?

It would hoping past hope to think you could restore the XP, huh?
If you formatted the drive; XP no longer exists on your drive. So no need to over ride it.
So This would be true:
You don't have XP installed.
The VISTA CD fails.
The best thing here would be to reinstall XP and then UPGRADE to VISTA from XP by using the CD as an UPGRADE CD.
Good LUCK.

You'll have to make sure that your computer fits the requirements to install Vista. You should only have to put the Vista CD in - follow instructions and it will update your computer.
If you bought the Vista Upgrade version, that version was intended to be started from within Windows XP. I'm not sure the CD is bootable. However one thing that might affect things is the boot drive order, it may not be trying to boot the CD. You should be able to adjust the boot order in the BIOS settings. Check your manual to find out how to get into the BIOS. (Or look for something that says ''press %26lt;key%26gt; to enter setup'' or something.)
well first, you have to be careful and make sure that your computer is compatible with vista. if it is over a year old, it will probably not be compatible. if it is not, you cannot do anything to change it except buy a new computer. by the way, from some personal experience, i have windows vista, and i think you should wait to get it until they come out with a service pack. on the current version, it still is not optimized and it also takes a while to get fully comfortable with the way the folders are set up and such.
doooon't install vista! you'll just want to switch back to XP, I promise you this. vista is a crapshoot.
please please please don't bother vista got too many errors wit until service pack comes out then install
