Took my laptop to my in-laws house for the holidays. My father-in-law uses a D-link router that I know has worked before. My wife's laptop has XP on it and can connect. My laptop has Vista on it and can see the network, but can't connect to it. I've taken my laptop to other places and I can still connect. My father-in-law uploaded the upgrades for his router and still nothing. Any thoughts as to what it could be?
Connecting to the Internet wirelessly with Vista?anti virus scan
Is he using any type of security? Try setting up the network manually, then check the security settings. If he is using any type of WPA, make sure you are on WPA-PSK. You may also try changing the encryption type from AES to TKIP. If he's not using any type of security, setup the connection manually and make sure all of your security settings are off. Then disable the adapter and re-enable it. Repair the connection and see what happens. You may also want to go into the wireless networks, under ''network and sharing center --%26gt; Manage Wireless Networks'' and move that network up in the list so it tries to connect to it first. Last but not least, remove all of the other wireless networks and put the settings in for his network, thus forcing it to only try to connect to that one.
