It's a waste of time, but you won't have a choice if you want a new machine and you are buying it retail.

I love it, but before you get it, you should make a check list of what you want to use with it (hardware and software) and make sure all of it is compatible. I do a lot of audio / video graphics editing and programing, and I have not had anything I could not do. Some of my hardware has XP-only drivers and that still works fine, maybe I just got lucky. It looks beautiful, if you've ever gone from 98 to XP you know the feeling of getting the next Windows. Oh, and make sure you have 2 gigs of ram and a nice graphics card if you want to run Aero (the 3D windows add on).
I have it on my laptop, and it drives me bananas. If you try to create a new folder, you get two windows warning you and asking you if you initiated that action. Same thing if you copy a file. It's freaking ridiculous.
I love vista, its awesome.

Contrary to most beliefs, it works in intergrated cards!!!!!! (yes, even aero and flip 3D)
