My laptop came with vista basic but runs so slow even when RAM is maxed out?

How can i get XP on my laptop if i don't have a copy? If i get a copy of it can I use the vista certificate with it? I've already paid the price of vista when i bought my laptop, so why can't i used the certificate numer on XP, an older windows version? My laptop is a gateway ML3109

You can either buy a copy of Windows XP, or give Ubuntu Linux a try. www.ubuntu.com. It's free and a lot faster than Windows. Product keys from different releases of Windows are not transferable.

Scan for viruses. Alot of them run in the background without you knowing and slow your PC down.

there are a LOT of reasons that computers become slow over time.

1] not enuff memory [ R.A.M. ]

2] too many programs/apps loading at the same time

3] spyware

4] large temp file folder

5] large prefetch folder

6] dirty,dust filled cabinet

7] delete old restore points

1] Memory:

todays computers now need at least a GIGabyte of memory to stay up to speed. 258 or 512 just can't cut the mustard anymore,so upgrade/increase your memory card.
