There is a built in dual boot in Vista. If you find microsoft knowledge base and look for the dual boot tem under vista it will tell you how. Before you do use the D partition, run a full bootable backup from the software that is on there. It is set up that way so if you need to recover the boot up, it will go to the D drive for the information. That is why you do not have a boot disk provided with Vista.

good luck
Boot from XP CD and install XP as usual. Now only XP will work.Visit http://neosmart.net/ and download Easy BCD pro gramme. Install it in XP and open it. It will give a message Valid BCD Registry not detected. Click on Yes. A window (Boot Drive) will open. In this against Correct Boot Drive set C Drive and press OK. Again the Boot Drive Window will open. But now it will ask for Vista Drive letter. Again select C drive. But a warning message NO VALID ENTRIES FOUND will be displayed. Click OK. In the next window, click on Add/Remove entries. Here you have a part ADD AN ENTRY. There in the TYPE drop down menu select Windows NT/2k/XP. Type XP in the name box Select now D in the drive box. Finally save.
