Run your antivirus while in safe mode by restarting your computer and tap F-8 repeatedly during startup then a screen will show in black and you will select safe mode,, Once your in safe mode then run your antivirus,

besides which there are several beta tests in existance so a product key for one may not work on another.

i can tell you that windows vista is a good operating system and there are still some hardware vendors who have yet to create a VISTA driver for there products.

so first go to all the websites for the hardware on/ in your system, then download all the VISTA drivers and burn them all to a DVD/CD. Once done get set for one or two hefty file downoloads. if you can actually get a windows VISTA beta.

the files are in ISO format which means you need a DVD-R to burn the files too and a burning program that supports the ISO format.

i'm running the x64 version on my system, and i can safely say that my amd sempron 3400 CPU runns better on the x64 platform than it does with xp home.

besides which there is currently only one security suite vendor listed as an official product support for vista and that is from trendmicro.com called pc-cillin internet security 14 the trend micro beta for vista beta. a damn good security suite.

If you want to use the PC you have, keep XP, if you want to use Vista, get a new PC. Your motherboard is REALLY outdated, I had it on a PC with WIN 98 :).

Try to re-sell or return the Vista and buy just a PC for $350-400 with basic Vista capabilities and the OS pre-installed (or better if you have the money and want to move up to performance).

If you want to upgrade your memory, you need PC2100 Memory, your PC can take up to 2GB (two slots 1GB each).

Your processor is almost maxed, the top possibility is a P4 @ 2.4GHz upgrading is pointless. Vista pretty much demands hyperthreading or dual-core, or you'll freeze up non-stop.

Your graphics is not upgradeable unless you get a basic PCI card for more memory but there's no way to get Vista Aero running smoothly.

Sure, you can dual boot, but you have to have XP installed first and then Vista installed on a separate partition.

However, if you have an XP Old folder you have used an upgrade to install Vista. An upgrade will not leave the old XP install intact, it ''upgrades'' the XP system files and allows you to keep all your old documents and stuff.

The XP Old folder allows you to revert back to XP, but not use it as an OS along side Vista. So the answer is |''no'' to your primary question, you cannot dual boot in your circumstances.

You partition your hard drive everytime you install a Os. And yeah you need to prepartition to dual boot or know what the partitions are and make sure you have a big enough hard drive to dual boot.

If you bought the Vista Upgrade version, that version was intended to be started from within Windows XP. I'm not sure the CD is bootable. However one thing that might affect things is the boot drive order, it may not be trying to boot the CD. You should be able to adjust the boot order in the BIOS settings. well first, you have to be careful and make sure that your computer is compatible with vista. if it is over a year old, it will probably not be compatible. if it is not, you cannot do anything to change it except buy a new computer. by the way, from some personal experience, i have windows vista, and i think you should wait to get it until they come out with a service pack. on the current version, it still is not optimized and it also takes a while to get fully comfortable with the way the folders are set up and such.

as a rule you should after a malware scan restart your system, then check that all programs are working normally (only if malware is found). if a program reports an error you may find that the file is in the quarantine file.

rescan your computer. now if any malware is found then delete it, if not restart your stystem then for good measure repeat the scan again. if no errors or malware found then you can safely run your system as normal.

Well buddy in simple terms, NO, but it is possible for you to configure your anti virus to put all the quarantined files in a folder. But I would suggest you switch on automatic full computer scanning, that will help
Do not do this, any attempt to move the files into or out of it may activate the virus. The virus vault used by AVG or Norton etc is a specially protected folder which prevents this.

I'd doubt it because Microsoft make it, however it has flaws that can be breached.
Firefox is considered better because it doesn't run ActiveX applets, which is how a lot of virii and spyware make it on your system. Firefox is a good browser (I'm using it right now), but it does have its own set of issues.

Open the case, there is a small jumper next to the clock battery. change the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3. Push power on. Power Off. change jumper back to 1-2, then power on. This should get you back to the point where you can boot from a startup floppy to clear the viruses with Norton or equivalent (from floppy or CD, not HDD).

Since it is emails you are sending that is ending up in his spam folder it is not a Virus causing it.

Tell him to delete your email address from his Address Book or Contact List and retype it.

Tell him to be sure to click the Not Spam button each time your email is in the spam folder. He needs to do this each time it happens. The Spam Filter at the server need to be taught to recognize your emails as Not Spam. This sometimes take several attempts.

Your friend has listed your name as Spam. Actually, your name would only go in bulk mail and then your friend would mark it as spam. Ask you friend to remove your name from the spam list. Antibiotics do things like interfere with the ability of bacteria to synthesise their capsule substance. Since viruses work by hijacking host cell machinery, interfering with that would be equivalent to poisoning the host.
the simple answer is that antibiotics can kill living things such as bacteria but because viruses are not living things, it has no affect. this is why there has never been a cure for ANY illness that is caused by a virus. Such as the common cold or AIDS. both are caused by viruses. A virus has to run its course, THAT is the only cure!!

MySpace users in general aren't the smartest and often click links where they download keyloggers, trojans, etc. The best way to stay safe is to just not click the links and browser with a good browser (IE7 with the add-on IE7Pro is perfect) that has an add-blocker.

As for anti-virus/spyware protection, I'd go with NOD32 Smart Security or regular Anti-virus/spyware suite.

One of the first things to do when you suspect malware is DISABLE System Restore.

If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself.

The next most helpful things that would help you are to use ONLINE scanners from websites to remove any malware on your PC.

i do not think so you have to use the windows firewall to remove all of it but there is a possibility it will cover it and after you reinstall windows it will have covered the old windows that you used to have but if it doesnt you can always delete the files that you think caused much problems. my computer also had the recovery disc installed in xp but i accidentally deleted it in vista. anyway just try what i said reinstall and try to delete the files that you did not need causin viruses to your computer

At one time viruses, spyware and other malware were mostly written by script-kiddies (mostly pimply-faced male adolesents) as a form of vandalism.

Today it's all about making money.

For example a website that somehow ''gave'' you an unwanted toolbar, would earn a small commission.

But a simple toolbar is reletively benign. The big money is made in compromising thousands of computers and putting them into a single ''botnet'' These nets of zombie computers contain tremendous computing power and can be used to extort money from legitimate web-sites using a distrubuted denial of service attack.

Much of the spam that clogs our inboxes also is sent from these zombie machines, thousands per hour per machine and the actual owner of the computer is blissfully unaware of the fact. But the attacker and controller of the botnet makes a great living selling his underground e-mail server service on the black market!

Of course, since a fully compromised computer gives the attacker TOTAL control over it, it becomes trival task to mine these computers for bank account numbers, passwords, credit account numbers, identities, social security #s, etc.

And the list goes on and on.

Perhaps Eugene Kaspersky, founder of anti-virus maker Kaspersky Labs said it best, '' It's a different world today. 10 years ago, we were fighting against smart kids who hacked as a hobby. yes, it can corrupt the hard drive. i suggest if you go with the ipod to but the extended warranty, i think its like $70, but if you go online a register the ipod, and you have an issue with it, like the hard drive crashing, they will replace it for free. I have had to have mine replaced 4 times

Sounds to me like your computer is using all it resources to scan for viruses. I use Windows One Care and when it scans I cant even tell its running or scanning.

Anyway right click on your tool bar and go to the ''Task Manager''

See what percentage your cpu is. The higher the percentage, the more system resources you re using.

Alot of the reasons why system resources are high is usually in your start up. If you or, more than likely, your kids download alot this usually sets up a start up icon in the bottom right hand side of your toolbar. The more thing you have set up to run when Windows start, example Yahoo Messenger, the longer it takes your to computer start, then when you have something important to do, like scan for viruses, the more your virus protection has to scan and share system resources, your processor.

What I would do, if it were me, reformat your hard drive and reinstall Norton first thing when your system is back up and running. Then as you reinstall other software, like Yahoo Messenger, dont let it run when Windows starts. Then your computer will not only start faster, it will run any program you want to run, like a virus scanner faster too.

Norton is a bad piece of software to buy anyway so is Mcafee. When your subscription is up on Norton, try Windows One care. Its free for 90 days and you can put it on up to 3 different computers legally.
